![]() In all I greatly enjoyed Tir Na Nog… the sequel Dun Darach upped the ante, with foxy lady villagers and a casino, but it didn’t recreate the wonder that the original game generated on it’s launch. This was a neat trick, although it did become quite confusing, often leading you to not be able to find something, because you hadn’t switched views at the right time. He could even rotate his view to see what was happening on the other side of the road. I think this may have happened recently in many of England’s villages.Ĭuchulainn himself was quite cool, and even death didn’t stop him, what with him being dead already and that. Apparently the Monkeys were a beautiful race of people turned into Monkeys by a curse. The puzzles were all cryptic, and I didn’t understand any of them. Alright maybe you can’t do all that in Cornwall, but it still had that feel about it. You could see all the quaint houses, visit the shops, look at the scenery in the distance, be attacked by monkeys and talk to stones and hedges with eyes and faces…. It was like going on holiday to a picturesque village in Cornwall. All I wanted to do was walk around the village and see the sights. I doubt if anyone ever did, it was too long and complicated (I am quite happy to be contradicted here). I never completed it, nor ever got anywhere near it. I’m sure it was a common occurrence in Celtic Ireland, it’s famous for being overrun with Monkeys… or was it snakes?Īnyway I don’t care what the quest was. His task is to retrieve some mystical items, and avoid having them stolen off him by some monkeys. ![]() The backgrounds scrolled beautifully, whilst the main character was like a playable cartoon… well that’s how it felt in 1984… today it doesn’t look quite that brilliant… but it’s still impressive.Ĭuchulainn, the hero, walks with a jaunty swagger. As the song says I’d never seen anything like it in my life… The animation was simply superb. When I first saw Tir Na Nog, I was amazed. ![]()
